By now, you know how easy it is to prepare a whole chicken in the microwave, thanks to our innovative steamers and exclusive spice blends like Rotisserie Chicken Seasoning and Lemon Garlic Chicken Seasoning. But now we’re turning up the heat with a spicier option featuring chilies, paprika, and cayenne. It’s a whole new level of 20-minute, speedy, spicy deliciousness!

Ingredients

  • 1 pkg Portuguese Chicken Seasoning
  • 14 cup water
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 3 lbs (1.36 kg) whole chicken

Preparation

  1. Whisk seasoning with water and oil. Let stand 5 min.
  2. Place chicken, breast side down, in Round or Multipurpose Steamer. Rub with half the seasoning mixture. Turn chicken over, breast side up, and rub with remaining seasoning mixture.
  3. Cover; microwave on high 15 min. Remove lid and microwave additional 5 min, or until internal temperature reaches 180° F. Or, roast, uncovered, in preheated 375° F oven 70–80 min, or until internal temperature reaches 180° F.

Tips

If you have time, let the chicken rest for 15 min before slicing it. This gives it time to absorb the yummy juices. Pour any drippings from the steamer over your chicken.
